come both in in-line horizontal design, often referred to as “a Bartelt®”; or in multi-lane
vertical machines.
The pouch design, product to be packed and the secondary packaging involved, dictate the preferred
method of manufacturing.
Ø Most commonly referred to pouches,
are often called sachets (sa-sh-ays) or packets.
Finished pouches are manufactured by Colonials equipment by applying specific heat onto a material,
sealing the edges of a laminated flexible substrate. The protective layer for inks, is the Lamination layer (s), it is
often referred to as “film”. “Film” can be a lamination of several layers of substrates with
the intended intention to hold a product.
Films
form a “barrier” emcompassing the product inside the pouch to prevent the material within the from outside environments
and to prevent contamination. Dependent on the pouch structure, the film is capable of inhibiting gaseous exchanges
inwardly and outwardly, maintaining the product consistently fresh and ready for its intended use.
Ø Pouch styles typically are either three (3) or
four (4) sided. Options for tandem (up to 4-packs), gusseted and Delta-Pac® stand-up packs are readily
